A simple secret
Contrary to what you think that you would need to have a prior advanced knowledge to be able to create scripts and snippets, you can actually just be a simple explorer having the enthusiasm to learn. Yes, even just as a beginner, it will not be so hard if you try. So what do you really need? Comprehension, patience and common sense.First things first
So now we know you want to create a script or even just a snippet, so what's there to consider? Well, of course, ask yourself: What will this script be for? What is my purpose for this script? What do I want this script to do?Once you have answered that, then you're on the right track. Awareness of your reasons will be the first step to properly learn scripting (and all other things, for that matter).
Read, read, explore, explore, try, try, test and do more of that
Doesn't sound so fun, does it? There's no shortcut to learning, unfortunately. There are shortcuts to acquiring and downloading mIRC scripts available out there, but there's always a gap between what you can download to your computer and what you can let your "personally-created" script do for you.The best way after knowing what you want your script to do for you is simple: read the help / mIRC guide included in your mIRC client! Yes, IT DOES have a help file complete with mIRC scripting guides. Simply go to Help and you will see an index of commands and mIRC script guidelines. It would actually be easier searching for what you need it to do for you and analyze which processes will work best for you. It's not all easy, but it ain't too difficult if you want to learn.
Heh.. I'll just download mIRC scripts
Of course a lot of free mIRC scripts are available for download and you can very much utilize them if you think they could give you the best solution for you chatting needs. Unfortunately, many of these scripts offer either too much or too little of what you actually need.So what can you do about it? As mentioned above, "Read, read, explore, explore, try, try, test.." You can always use these mirc scripts as your raw code to learn scripting and develop the script to the kind which works the way you want it to.
So I will rip someone else's code??!
Not exactly, no. By ripping I would consider you only changed it a little, removed credits and claimed everything to be your own work (and maybe released it to the public). That's not really how you should do things. You will study the code for your own learning, write a code of your own with the knowledge you have learned from the scripts you studied, and in the end you should give credit to the scripts which you acquired your knowledge from or probably experimented with.
It is basically like learning how to construct grammatically-correct sentences, by reading grammar and composition books, novels, and other reading materials, and later on creating your own original composition. You did get the knowledge and the how-to's from those other reference materials, but it doesn't mean you are copying them. The same principle can be applied here.
mIRC scripting isn't really all that hard, you simply have to learn how to read and understand the guidelines carefully. And always get reference or test materials.
